President Obama announced on Wednesday that Dr. Rajiv Shah will be in charge of the overall relief in Haiti. Shah is a 36 year- old that is a part of the U.S. Agency for International Dev elopement. His main goal in the first 72 hours is too focus on saving lives. Shah is very advanced, being involved in jobs such as an under- secretary at the Department of Agriculture as well as a health care policy advisor in the 2000 Gore administration. He has served as a policy member in the British Parliament and at the World Health Organization.
I think President Obama has done right by appointing a very intelligent individual to be in charge of the overall relief in Haiti. As of now, lives are still being accounted for and as a helping nation we need to make priority in finding those people. In recent articles that I read, rain is supposedly coming their way and we need to provide shelter so more illnesses do not occur. As a nation we can give relief and help to Haiti one step at a time. The first step has been accounted for by appointing Dr. Shah to lead them to hope.
